How to winterize your car

By admin on January 23, 2012 in Auto

Winter is the one time of the year when the whole world gets covered in a blanket of white, and the entire scenery of the area gets transformed into a completely different world. As beautiful and mysterious as winter is, this season also comes with many problems of its own, the biggest one being the ice and the cold. This is was an especially big hassle for car owners, as they would have to perform various tasks religiously in order to keep their car running in an efficient manner. Fortunately for us, modern day cars have been designed to endure the cold weather and continue running smoothly without too many problems.

However that does not mean that you are allowed to neglect winterizing your car. Thus we are going to be looking at some things you can do to prepare your car for the cold winter.
Your car battery is the part which is responsible for getting your car started and produces the electricity energy required to run the electronic devices in your car. Unfortunately the chemical reactions which are performed by your car battery to produce the electrical power required are severely slowed down in extremely low temperatures. As if the situation wasn’t bad enough, your engine requires twice the normal amount of energy to start under these extreme conditions. So be sure to have a mechanic run through over your battery to check the status of your battery and fix it up to prime shape.
One of the most common things during the winter months is the accumulation of snow everywhere and your car’s windshield is no exception. Fortunately for you, a good set of windshield wipers and a sufficient supply of wiper fluid will guarantee you clear line of sight even through the nastiest snowstorm. Do keep in mind that wiper blades are only great for a year. Be sure to replace your wipers if they happened to look deteriorated from use. Also if your area of residence is hit especially hard by winter, you should consider investing your money on a good pair of wiper blades which are specifically designed for winters.
